A sector we're proud to support
It is a privilege to work in the New Zealand seafood sector, one of country’s most important, generating $5.2 billion in economic output annually, and employing an estimated 16,500 people.
The Nelson Tasman region is at the heart of the sector, being home to the largest seafood processing port in Australasia and major fishing and aquaculture companies, all serviced by one of the country’s largest marine service sectors.
Over the past decade, Publik has developed an in-depth understanding of the seafood industry's people and its ever-changing complexities. We've provided strategic communications, media relations and event support to industry leaders and organisations across deepwater and inshore fisheries, seafood processing, aquaculture, government agencies, research organisations and industry associations.
We've delivered media relations programmes that have generated more than 100 positive or balanced media stories and published opinion pieces. We've also supported organisations with rapid-response media communications as issues have emerged in fast-moving news environments.
During the Government-mandated COVID-19 lockdowns, when the seafood industry continued operating as an essential service, we provided strategic communications advice, managed media enquiries, developed stakeholder and internal communications, and supported social media channels. Another thing to mention is the Sealord martketing work during this time which was hailed as a success in the media by Doug.
Recognised by the industry
In 2024, Publik Managing Director Emma Thompson accepted the WISA Seafood Star Award on behalf of the Publik team, recognising our work establishing Seafood Saturday and our strategic communications and media support for New Zealand's seafood industry.
