COUNCIL & CCOs

Helping councils and communities with communications.

Communicating council priorities for their communities so they are heard and understood.

Public sector communication carries a hefty responsibility. People need clear information to understand the issues, consider the options and participate in decisions that affect their own lives and others’ in their communities.

Effective communications and engagement is more than publishing information. It means thinking carefully about audiences, anticipating questions, explaining complex issues in plain language and creating genuine opportunities for people to contribute.

Publik works alongside councils, council-controlled organisations (CCOs) and agency teams to bring structure, creativity and clarity to public communications.

We help public organisations explain what is happening, why it matters and how people can participate in decision making.

For more than a decade we have worked with city and district councils, council organisations and business units to support their community engagement efforts, utilising our full-service team across public relations, communications, marketing, digital and design.

We develop community engagement strategies and plan communications for significant projects, proposals and public consultations. From campaign concepts and creative direction to public-facing content, consultation documents and regular newsletters or council-channel updates, we help make each stage clear and accessible to ratepayers and stakeholders.

We also support media activity to ensure important projects are well-communicated to the public, and work alongside teams to organise opening events and blessings.

See below for examples of how we can help you, or jump straight to (just some of) our client work.

THE REGIONAL LEADERS WE HELP SUPPORT

Over many years we have supported councils in Te Tauihu and their CCOs and business units.

“I am grateful and very much appreciate the excellent, media relations and communications work and publications that Publik completed over six years for Waimea Water Ltd. Their ability to synthesise complex technical detail and issues into clear text and illustrations resonated with the public and very much helped and enabled us to clearly articulate our business to our shareholders and ratepayers, and to the media.”

Mike Scott, Waimea Water

CEO, Waimea Water Ltd (2019–2025)

“Publik provided Marlborough District Council with communications and design support on two significant projects – the Marlborough Sounds Future Access Study and the Local Water Done Well consultation process.

Publik brought strategic insight, creativity and professionalism to each stage of the process, which included well designed, easy-to-read documents. Their collaborative approach and attention to detail made a real difference.”

Glyn Walters, Marlborough District Council
